Veterans Academy

The Identity Shift

A nonclinical educational experience for Veterans examining identity, direction, purpose, and continuity after military service. Currently being developed and validated through a controlled pilot.

Identity after military service

Military transition can involve more than changing employment. Identity, mission, structure, community, contribution, and personal direction can also change.

Veterans Academy is being developed to help Veterans examine those areas through structured education, reflection, practical experimentation, and participant directed use of AI.

What Veterans Academy is

A nonclinical educational experience. Areas of focus may include:

  • Identity
  • Direction
  • Purpose
  • Connection
  • Personal operating patterns
  • Reflection
  • Small real world experiments
  • Continuity

What Veterans Academy is not

Veterans Academy is education, not treatment. It does not diagnose mental health conditions, treat post traumatic stress or trauma, provide therapy or crisis care, or replace professional clinical care.

Participants are not required to disclose trauma. Qualified human care remains separate and essential.

Veterans Academy does not provide crisis support. If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, call or text 9-8-8. If there is immediate danger, call 9-1-1.

AI enabled approach

Veterans Academy is being developed with an AI enabled participant experience. In the current pilot, AI is intended to support:

  • Guided reflection
  • Participant approved memory
  • Continuity across sessions
  • Follow up
  • Small experiments
  • Development of a Personal Operating Manual

These functions are part of the pilot design and are currently being validated. The AI is not a therapist, clinician, crisis service, diagnostic tool, or medical adviser.

Participant agency

Participants are told at the outset that they are working with an AI. The design principle is that the participant remains in control. The AI is not intended to decide who the participant is or what is true about them.

Anything the AI proposes to remember is designed to be shown to the participant first, so participants can approve, edit, or decline information before it becomes part of ongoing memory or their Personal Operating Manual. This participant approved approach to memory is currently being validated in the pilot.

Personal Operating Manual

A participant owned living record being developed as part of the pilot. It may include values, useful anchors, chosen priorities, experiments, lessons, and personal operating patterns.

It is designed to change only with the participant's approval, and participants are intended to be able to review, edit, export, or delete it.

Current status

Veterans Academy is currently being developed and validated through a controlled pilot. It is not yet broadly available.

Outcomes have not yet been validated, and no claims are made about effectiveness at this stage.
